Five Winning Poker Tips

Here we are discussing five winning poker tips to keep your bankroll growing, let other players do the depositing for you.  While this article is geared towards assuming the player has a certain amount of experience, it also serves as solid advice for both new poker players and even some veterans to the online poker world.   We hope you enjoy this poker strategy article.

1. Treat A/K Off Suit Differently To A/K Suited.

Not many players know how to treat A/K off suit. The general misconception is that it should be held as the same strength as its suited counterpart. This in fact is one of the worst plays that a poker player, either within live poker or while playing online poker, could make.

The reasoning is that a suited version of the hand offers greater odds due to the fact that it possessed double the opportunity to hit a flush or better on the flop.

Another huge mistake that so many players make is thinking that A/K is an unbeatable hand. Seeing a flop of 3 low cards doesn't mean that you can't be beaten. A good player knows how to fold A/K without having to think about it.

2. Be The Betting Player, Not The Calling Station.

This method offers you the opportunity to win the hand in more ways than been the caller does. The methodology surrounding this is that if you are the 'betting' player you double your opportunity to win the hand, adding the chances of a player folding to your bet.

This method is only recommended when you are holding a strong hand, as continuous betting with a weak hand will not help you win the pot as your 'caller' may we be holding a strong hand.

3. Late In Tournaments, Steal The "Soft Chips".

When playing in a tournament situation players all have one aim, to finish within the paying positions. With this been the main aim, many players begin to tighten up completely in a bid to secure their place within the payouts, trying to avoid the bubble. This is a great opportunity for you to loosen up a little bit, making raises with hands that you would usually only call with. This is because players are more reluctant to place chips into a pot unless they are in possession of a strong hand, generally been pocket pairs or an ace with a picture card.

If you get a call in this situation, its time to play the hand in the same mentality that you have been playing since the start of the tournament, but increasing the size of your bets. Its suprising to see the amount of players who just aren't willing to risk busting on the bubble, with many even open folding pocket pairs.

4. Trap Maniacs And Overly Aggresive Players.

We have all come across them, the players who make over sized bets into pots in the hope that their bet for their 7/8 off suit is going to seem too large to their opponents. If you come across a player who plays like this, you have found the perfect poker opponent. The fact that they are willing to throw their chips into the pot means that with some good poker strategy you are going to be able to take a good size pot down with your strong hand.

Good poker strategy isn't something thats written in a far way cave somewhere, its simply wait for a strong hand and then make your move. Once you've looked at your cards and seeing that you are holding a strong hand, feed then the impression that your hand is only good enough to call a blind with. The aggressive player will love to see that you adding chips into the pot will increase the amount of chips their about to take... Or are they....?

As they place their raise into the pot you have to consider the strength of your hand, if your holding a high pocket pair then its time to make your re-raise. This will end in one of two ways, they are either going to be taken back by your raise and fold or they are going to try to re-raise you again. The chances of the player only calling you after they have been playing aggressively for a number of hands is very slim. If the player is only going to call then see it as an opportunity to see what the community cards have to add more strength to your hand. If you hit something within the flop that offers you on of the best possible hands at this point why not check the action to the aggressor? This will increase the size of possible pot, giving you the opportunity to re-raise.

Entering into this situation with a strong hand from the start will result in you winning a large amount of chips if you play it right. Remember that you are trying to give them the impression that your hand has no strength... Then take them down!

5. Take Notes About Other Players At Your Table.

Making observations on the players that are seated at your table is something that is done regardless of if the game is played as a live tournament or online.

Obvoiously playing live poker means that you have to make mental notes on your opponents, trying to store as many notes in your mind as you can.

Online poker playing  also offers good reason to take notes on players, things such as, is the player willing to defend their blind with any hand or are they willing to let them go? The benefit of playing online means that you can actually write these notes down, whether that be on a note pad at the side of your computer or on the notepad that a real money online poker room may provide.

Taking as many notes as you can on players helps you to read their style of play, which if done right can lead to a great boost in chips or bankroll as you know when a player is making a bluff.
