Basic Tight Aggresive Poker

For poker players just starting to play no limit holdem’ it is very important to only play hands that you will make money with in the long term. The better you are the more hands you can play profitably. Playing TAG means that you are playing tight and aggressive. This is the most profitable way to play poker while you are first learning to play ABC poker.

Realize You Are A Beginner:

One key thing to remember when you're starting is that you are still learning to play straight forward. The smaller amount of hands you play means the better hands that you are playing. The better the hands the easier decisions you will have and so forth. Playing tighter than your opponents will help to ensure that when you are in a pot against them you will more than likely have the best hand. Even though you are playing tight you still have to believe your opponents when they show aggression back at you. At the micros most of your opponents will be too poor of players to lie to you. You will see people who are bluff happy but for the most part what your opponent's bets say will be true, so believe them.

Be Aggressive With The Hands You Play

Being aggressive is a very important at poker strategy at real money tables. When you have a hand that you are going to play you should be raising. Not only does raising build up the pot when you have the best hand, but it also allows you to take down the pot by simply betting. When you raise it tells others you have a strong hand. If you raise KQ and get called and the flop is A59 your opponent will fold most of the time when you continuation bet here. This is why being the preflop aggressor is so important. You win a lot of money just by raising and taking down the blinds or raising and getting called with your opponent folding to your flop bet. A line that a lot of your opponents will take is call your raise preflop and then fold to your flop bet. Not only does being aggressive help you win more money by taking down the blinds, but you win the money your opponent calls preflop also when they fold on the flop.

Loosen Up Only When Playing In Position:

Loosening up in position will help to compensate for all the hands you fold in early position. You are raising with more hands with the intentions of taking the pot down due to aggression. This also helps even out the percentage of hands you play. You are playing extremely tight out of position and playing significantly looser in position. There are plenty of starting hand charts that you can base your starting range off of.

If you stick with these hands then you should be playing exactly the right amount of hands in each position. You must stay true to these though. Only start to open up more hands when you've developed your game to play those hands profitably. If not then playing more hands will simply force you to lose money because you don't know how to play them.

Playing tight and aggressive will help keep you out of tough decisions and will also aid in winning big pots with your good hands. When you are learning the basics of the game its best to stick to the simplest style possible. Aggression wins money alone and learning to always be aggressive will prove most profitable in the long term. In later position being more aggressive and raising more hands will help you to steal more blinds and win a lot of pots with a flop bet. Playing a tight aggressive game will make you the most money starting out guaranteed.
